Learn as much as you can about making a hit song in a week in the New Galaxy Records summer songwriting and recording camps. Work with three professionals who currently have music out on Spotify. Sessions are taught at Carolina Day school in Asheville, NC and run these weeks:
June 11th - 15th (rising 6th - 8th graders)
June 18th - 22nd (rising 9th - 12th graders)
July 23rd - 27th (rising 6th - 8th graders)
July 30th - August 3rd (rising 9th - 12th graders)
Every camper will receive a booklet with all the materials taught laid out. The booklet includes a glossary of terms with easy to understand definitions. Because of the amount of information taught in this camp, we want to give them this book so they can continue to refer to it throughout their college careers.
We nurture a creative mindset and assist in writing lyrics, harmony, melody, and rhythm. These skills last a lifetime, and become quite a therapeutic resource.
This is the art of taking a song and preparing it for the stereo field. Songs don't always translate well from the stage into a recording, and usually need extra help: this could include a different arrangement, or the addition of subtle nuances to make the recording more interesting and pleasing to the ear.
This is the more technical side of recording, but is artistic nonetheless. We will go into electronic signal flow, microphone design, microphone placement, and how to operate a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) such as Logic or Pro Tools. These DAW's are the industry standard today, and are crucial to understand if one wants to become an audio engineer.
This is music and beyond. Making a killer record is amazing, but marketing is just as important to its success. You will learn the basics of how record labels operate, as well as how to avoid them all together and become the ultimate DIY artist.
